Information we collect

Thingamabob stores the photos you upload for scanning, the AI-generated identification results you save, and the shopping list items you create entirely on your device. The app does not require an account and does not collect your name, email, or other personal information.

How we use your information

Your scans and shopping list are used to power the app's core features: identifying fasteners, saving parts to your workbench, and generating store-ready phrases. All data stays on your device.

Photos and scan data

Uploaded photos are processed by our AI identification service to produce fastener specifications. Saved scans and shopping lists are stored locally on your device — they are not uploaded to our servers and only you can view them. We do not sell your photos or identification results.

Affiliate links

When you tap a store button, we generate a search link to retailers such as Amazon and Walmart. These links may include affiliate tags so we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Thingamabob is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. Thingamabob is also a participant in the Walmart Affiliate Program.

Advertising

The app may display ads. Ad providers may use cookies and similar technologies under their own privacy policies. We do not share your personal scan data with ad networks.

Data retention

Your scans and shopping list items remain on your device until you delete them. You can remove individual scans or shopping items at any time from within the app. Uninstalling the app will permanently remove all stored data.

You can delete scans and shopping list items at any time. You can also dismiss in-app reminder banners. Because all data is stored locally on your device, uninstalling the app will permanently remove all your data.

Children's privacy

Thingamabob is intended for general use but is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll note the last updated date above and notify users of material changes where appropriate.

Your privacy rights — California residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your personal information, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information. Thingamabob does not sell your personal information. If you are located in the European Union, European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, under the GDPR and UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, and port your personal data, as well as the right to object to certain processing and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
